Georgia is undergoing political turbulence. The parliamentary elections of October 2024 are believed to be blatantly falsified by the ruling party. Courageous protests are continuing for more than 5 months across all major cities, with the centre of the movement being led by young artists and activists fighting for the survival of free expression, art, and identity.
Organised by Untitled Tbilisi, THE BLUE OF HIGH ZENITHS (Yerevan, 1-4 May, 2025) is a performance art gathering that is born out of the need to come together in this time of deep uncertainty to reflect on the drastic processes of political and social mutation currently undergoing in the Caucasus region and its neighbouring countries, researching how queer and feminist communities in this context create spaces of care and practices of resistance, with a focus on the queer body as a frontline, a radical tool of resistance and political imagination.
The talk, featuring Giorgi Rodionov (founder and co-director of Untitled Tbilisi) and Sabrina Bellenzier (co-director of Untitled Tbilisi and curator of THE BLUE OF HIGH ZENITHS) will present the experience of the festival, and in particular it will focus on the power of art and the importance of the artistic community in the struggle against authoritarianism in the Caucasus region and beyond.
