Shagai

Performance “Shagai” is an attempt to map the effects of extensive international travel on an individual’s internal experience. In the second half of 2023, the artist Antonín Brinda visited approximately fifteen countries and territories in Asia for work reasons, often at a very fast pace. The frequent relocations (mostly by plane) and the associated changes of contexts have, in addition to the expected positive effects such as learning about new cultures and ways of life, expanding horizons, experiencing "adventures", etc., also resulted in considerable emotional fluctuations, feelings of loneliness and misunderstanding, body exhaustion, injuries or illness. Through the medium of performance, the artist explores the possibilities of sharing these inner feelings and experiences in our society obsessed with representations and externality.
